A fad is way of thinking that people adhere to a product that they purchase in craze in a rather short period of time. For example, whenever Apple launches its new AirPods into the market, virtually all my friends seem to be crazy about it and there’s invariably heated discussion among them. Some of them even swarm desperately to and queue up at the store, aiming to get the state-of-the-art gadget as soon as possible and show off on social media afterwards, however much time it may take them. Another fad that has happened around me is my friends’ concern about some political issues. Caring about political issues is essential, but some of my friends seem to overindulged in it. And I think that their passion for the hotly-debated issues was aroused simply because they get manipulated psychologically by the media.
In my book, chasing the trend is silly. First, there will constantly be new products launched into the market and new novel events happening, so it’s unlikely that we always follow them closely. Some people might be afraid that they would be out of fashion or left out of conversation if they don’t keep abreast of the latest trend, which I think to be childish and ridiculous. Plus, following a trend in itself is both time consuming and meaningless. We should always focus on things that really matters.
