Memories of Taiwan

As a developed but still not that expensive area, Taiwan is charming. There you can live either a comfortable, luxurious lifestyle in a nice apartment with modern conveniences, or a cheap, down-to-earth countryside lifestyle without any low living quality but spending only a little money. I lived in Taipei for some time when I was young. It’s an impressive experience. It worths the name of one of the best places to live in Asia, as many foreigners said.

Food in Taiwan are diverse, delicious and cheap. You can have a traditional Taiwanese breakfast with fried bread sticks & a cup of soy milk, a proper Japanese meal with side dishes & a bowl of ramen for lunch, and Thai chicken coconut curry rice for dinner. Being a vegetarian in Taiwan is easy. Apart from Buddhist restaurants, you have options of Mexico, Italian and Indian food decently priced.

In another term of night time events, Taiwan is amazing too. There are so many kinds of markets come out when the night falls. It’s a smorgasbord of delicacies. Braised food is one of my favorites.   

It’s friendly and safe. The locals are generally helpful and warm hearted. People are just nice there. Pickpocketing is rare. You rarely have to bargain for discounts either. Very little in terms of scams and cheating even involving foreigners was heard. 

Taiwan has plenty of beautiful mountains, waterfalls and rivers. All road signs are very easy to navigate. Tourist places are never too crowded. Taroko & Alishan are famous for us. Besides, Kenting is well known for its clean and sunny beaches. The countryside is stunning for its tea fields, mountains, views and the coast, especially the east coast. There’s a reason the Portugueses called it “The Beautiful Island”.

In the end, go for Taiwan if you get a chance.

作为一个发达但还不算太贵的地区，台湾是迷人的。在那里，你可以过上舒适奢华的生活，在舒适的公寓里享受现代生活的便利，也可以只花费很少的钱，享受便宜的、接地气的乡村生活。我在台北生活过一段时间，这体验很值得回味。像很多老外说的，台湾是亚洲最适宜居住的地方之一。

台湾吃的很多，美味又便宜。你可以选择传统的台湾早餐，炸面包棒配上一杯豆浆，中午可以来一份正宗日本料理加配菜，再来一小碗拉面，晚餐则吃泰国咖喱椰鸡。台湾有很多素食主义者，在台湾吃素很容易。除了佛教餐厅外，你也可以选择墨西哥、意大利或者印度美食。

台湾的夜间活动也令人惊叹，最出名的当属夜市。当夜幕降临时，形形色色的夜市开始冒出来。这是一个美味佳肴的大杂烩。卤味是我的最爱之一。

台湾治安很好，当地人很乐于助人，热情好客。扒窃很少见，买东西也很少需要讨价还价。欺诈和欺骗很少听说，甚至卖东西给老外都很少听说缺斤短两。

台湾的山、瀑布、河流都很漂亮，所有的路标都很清晰，景点不会太拥挤。太鲁阁和阿里山对于我们来说早有耳闻，垦丁以它的干净明亮的海滩出名。令人惊叹的还有稍偏一点的茶园、各款的山、各类风景和它的海岸线，尤其是台湾东海岸，很漂亮。葡萄牙人称台湾为“美丽的岛屿”是有原因的。
