Trump invites Kim Jong Un to the White House after crossing North Korean border to shake hands
Donald Trump has invited Kim Jong Un to the White House, after he became the first serving American President to step over the North Korean border and shake hands with a North Korean leader. Trump crossed over from the demilitarized zone to shake hands with Kim Jong Un.
“When I put out the social media notification, if he didn’t show up he would have made me look very bad,” Trump told reporters. Kim Jong Un responded that “I was very surprised to hear about your offer on the tweet and only late in the afternoon I was able to confirm your invitation.”
“Stepping across that line was a great honour. A lot of progress has been made and a lot of friendships have been made and this in particular is a great friendship.”
Following their handshake, the two men took part in a press conference during which the US president confirmed that he was extending an invite to Kim Jong Un to the White House. He added: “We met and we liked each other from day one and that was very important,” Trump said.
Jong Un also thanked Trump for meeting him. “If you step over this line you will be the first US president to step on North Korean soil,” he told Trump before the president stepped over the border.
Speaking about their relationship, he said: “If it wasn’t for that good relationship, we would not have been able to make this sudden meeting possible.” “So this excellent relationship in the future as well, I hope that it can be the foundation for better things in the future that people will be not expecting. And this will be a very mysterious force that allows us to overcome many difficulties that existed in the past.”
Amazon's Prime Day is looking more and more like Alibaba's $30 billion Singles Day sales event
By any measure, this year’s Amazon’s Prime Day event will be its largest ever. It will run for a full 48 hours, making a mockery of the word “day” in the event’s title. In fact, this Prime Day will be the longest ever – a full 12 hours longer than last year’s.
Last year, a different but similar event called the Amazon Music Unboxing Prime Day concert was headlined by Ariana Grande, a massive pop star in her own right. Like this year’s concert will be, it was streamed on Prime Video for Prime members. It was more of a one-off concert than the holistic event this year.
It’s the biggest event yet tied to, and meant to draw attention to, Prime Day, which has cemented itself since its debut in 2015 as one of the top-three most important sales days of the year for Amazon. Every year, Chinese giant Alibaba hosts its massive Singles Day celebration. The company was crucial in transforming the regional holiday into the largest shopping day on the Chinese calendar over the last 10 years, as reported by Kate Taylor, who was at 2018’s Singles Day in Shanghai.
The company does not release exact sales figures for its shopping events like Prime Day, but for 2018’s 36-hour Prime Day, its total sales were pegged at $US4.2 billion by Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter. Prime Day is regularly beating in terms of sales by other days of the year. Both Black Friday and Cyber Monday beat Prime Day in sales, according to Amazon. Right now, 2018’s Cyber Monday sits as Amazon’s top sales day.

Google and Apple are both planning to launch their own video game subscription services this fall with two very different business models.
While Google and Apple have made major investments in their gaming initiatives, their approaches are a large departure from what gamers are used to. In contrast, Microsoft has slowly established its own subscription service and cloud gaming platform without compromising the core of its Xbox business.
Microsoft pushed its way into the market with the original Xbox in 2001, but it took the better part of a decade for the brand to gain the sort of dedicated fandom that Nintendo and Sony’s PlayStation have enjoyed since the 90s. Apple has a fairly negative reputation among hardcore gamers because high quality games are rarely playable on Mac computers. Apple hired several independent video game studios to develop original titles for Apple Arcade but details on those releases have been scarce.
Microsoft has also started releasing its newest games on Game Pass the same day they hit stores, so players who want to play something like “Gears of War 5” only have to pay the $US10 subscription fee to access the full game on release day. Every game confirmed for Stadia’s November launch will be playable on another platform. Google has created an in-house game studio called Stadia Games and Entertainment to develop exclusive titles, but none of them will be ready for 2020.
