The silent wisdom & Silence of the wisdom
In response to the negative comments on information overload in the previous section, some would say that the Big Bang for information is a dividend of social development, opening up more options for us; that it is an inevitable law of things, and that we have to adapt as it goes; and that it is an individual evolution, and that the corresponding "growth" will inevitably accompany the corresponding need to break free. Perhaps all of these explanations are correct, or perhaps they are only partially correct. There is no point for argue here, but they do not help solve the problem itself, unless you use the "development problem can only be fixed via development" response here, which I don't buy anyway. Let's switch "the big bang" back to a less neutral word "information overload", and we probably wouldn't object to the idea that anyone can be a "KOL" in this age of information overload, as long as there's user attention. But at the same time, these KOLs have become more visible targets, which I believe is easy to understand, but the reason I captured the obvious is that should they be initiating or participating in conversations on topics that are controversial, that are prone to misinterpretation, and that publishers don't fully understand by any sense. Statements will be sprayed, wrongdoings will be hated, ambiguous remarks may also be quoted in sarcastic ways. Is this the embodiment of the mass crowd? A downward facing non-physical force, the mainstream values of public opinion, pure pressure. Furthermore, the same kinds of generalizations have become ubiquitous in the context of information overload, for which I don' t want to speak like "Oh please, the overthrown mainstream values like XXX don't necessarily represent eternal truth either." The least we can do is a consensus and tolerance that is different from each other to avoid value convergence. It would have been rather painful were the opposition had become vitriolic all the time. So under condition settings like this, not doing anything means not making any misbehave, it become only logical to be silent so as to act like an ordinary wise person, which is fairly ironic. Society should be more tolerant and encouraging for mistake-making acts. But as the old saying that "failure is the mother of success" has already been outdated, we might just say some like "the encouraging for failure equals to encouraging for success". This should be a better interpretation for the upcoming generations.
Heavy topics coming after the serious ones, considering the silence under information over transformed into a bizarre kind of wisdom, why does the real wisdom on the other hand fall into silence then? First off, there are a lot of digression angles we can run into, such as #the disappearance of master-age, #the fallen of classical qualities (e.g. the literati culture), and even #the solidification of social environment. But from the information overload point of views, people's impetuousness, utility of words and deeds, vulgarization of social atmosphere and so on can explain the phenomenon of social public intellectuals falling into silence; with other pertinent but sensitive aspects aside. Of course, not all public intellectuals is hoarse. Many of them are still actively exerting their positive influence within society. There are those in the fields of culture, media, arts, and even finance (#public welfare) are simply called doers. But it's vital to mention here, I was only saying that quite a number of idealists feel powerless responding to the impact of these factors, so we really shouldn't generalise anything here indeed (i.e. don't quoted me on that, LOL). Still, perhaps there are some differences in values between the two types of public intellectuals, but the overall deviation is probably not too great, and I am willing to believe a bright era is bound to be a combination of both parties, with support and enlightenment for one another. For a long time, the public intellectuals even is not known as a controversial group, it's at least subject to great concerns. What he/she says and does attracts a lot of public attentions regarding right and wrong, as if this group is inherently not allowed to have any sort of flaw, but it is always difficult to please the majority, it is even impossible to please them all; on one hand, perfect figures can only exist in fantasy, and there is no comment for a top-up on that; on other hand, the background of the times and social conceptions is the context of character criticism, a particular era and a particular group of people always have a mutual relationship on choices, under different contexts, heroes often represent symbols for different qualities, nothing changes but the true motivation and the impact from behaviors, there is no doubt that the moral kidnapping to the public intellectuals of society is an attempt to create a non-existent object of worship to, once the faith is collapsed, all the dissatisfaction can be doubled out and released, or joking around; but knowing that the difference between people does not lie in their abilities, experience, or so-called gifted talent, the precondition of accomplishment of the other, can make the same version of you, but there is no rational need to picture them as symbol of perfection. Here I prefer saving my time echoing what these have anything to do with information overload, considering all these are not the problems brought by development, but the problems that development will find themselves facing. And of course, some may think I'm just whitewashing for the public intellectuals, but I really don't need to sophistry anyone in this group, and frankly they also don't need it. I merely cannot adapt to this kind of "strong buy hard sell" logics; cus you know, no one can glance above all, let alone wearing a biasd pair of glasses, so we should not take everything for granted. Summing up, I do not believe that being misunderstood is the fate of the expressers, because it should rather be the self-cultivation for them, but the expression without cares will become or bring real harms eventually.
