  我觉得这三个单词的侧重点是不同的。

  reach out sb., to show people that you are interested in them
  and want to listen to them.

  reach sb. 会更贴近“联系某人”的意思。reach sb. ≈ speak to sb. 特别是通过电话联系到某人，if you reach someone, you succeed in speaking to them on the phone. 近义词：contact

• happen/occur/take place
  都表示发生，主语一定是“事件”，没有被动语态。逻辑上的原因是：没有任何事情是“被发生”的，事件可以被策划，但不能被发生。
