Economics is the study of people and choices.

Affred Marshall （阿尔弗雷德·马歇尔）：A study of man (and woman) in the ordinary business of life. It enquires how he gets his income and how he uses it. Thus,it is on the one side the study of wealth, and on the other and more important side, a part of the study of man (and woman).

opportunity cost （机会成本）

Eg：He looked at the benefits and costs of his choices, and in the end decided to spend more time writing books.

Two assumptions: ①the idea of scarcity  ②everything has a cost

Aim: get the most from our limited resources

the role of politics （政策）

Government officials use economic theory to guide public policy.

Economists adjust policies based on theories supported by data and understanding of incentives.

Macroeconomics

Macro studies the economy as a whole, it looks at the whole nation's output（产出）, unemplyment（失业状况）,inflation（通货膨胀）, interest rates（利率）, government spending（政府开销） and growth（经济增长）.
