The trenchant question

He said to him the third time, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter felt hurt because he said to him the third time, "Do you love me?" And he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep.—John 21:17

Facing the Lord’s questions, Peter didn’t dare to announce his love to Jesus loudly like in the promise from three days ago.

Peter said to him, "Though all become deserters because of you, I will never desert you."--Matthew16:33

Jesus said to him, "Truly I tell you, this very night, before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.” -- Matthew16:34

Jeter said to him, "Even though I must die with you, I will not deny you." And so said all the disciples. -- Matthew16:35

Human nature likes to say their thoughts. Only Jesus was trenchant to ask Peter again and again, his real love can be appeared. The type of love Peter loved Jesus is only a sample that Human nature loves a good man. This belongs to a type of love of human’s emotion and will go deep into human nature, but it doesn’t touch human’s mind in-depth. The true love never announces anything to public. Jesus said: “Whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before he angels of God”. admitting God’s love doesn’t rely on the words, but the actual action.

Unless the Lord’s words directly puncture our false masks, God’s words can’t enter our hearts. The hurt God’s words bring is more painful than Sins bring the pain. Because sins make our feeling dull, the Lord’s words let us strengthen our feeling. Even its puncture is more painful than any pain we can think about the pain. The pain is not general pain, but it is deeper and directly face the hearts of people. The Lord’s words puncture us to separate our spirit and soul, any false can’t be remained in our hearts. Facing the Lord’s questions, it is impossible that we can answer Him befittingly after we take more time to think about it. Because once the Lord questions to us directly, it must puncture our hearts. All parts in our life deviated from God’s will must bring another kind of pain. It is not wrong that the Lord’s words make His children’s heart lancinating. At the moment that we feel the sharp pain, it is the important moment God gives us the enlightenment.
