当我回国去看望父母时，
面对一桌虾蟹，竟然问，有没有清淡的？
In the year of 2009,
I returned to China to visit my parents.
When welcomed by a table of prawns and crabs,
all I asked was, “Don’t you have any light food？”

妈妈悄悄问，是否有了？
Mom whispered a question to me,
“Are you pregnant？”

有些恶心，仅一次没有保护，难道？
这不科学，一次不太可能，
但心虚的我悄悄去买验孕棒。
Feeling a little sick, I wondered how it could be
by missing contraceptive protection only once.
It’s just unscientific and impossible.
But with uncertainty and guilt,
I went out and bought a pregnancy test.

我瘫坐在地上，手脚有些发抖，
前几天刚接受全身检查做过颈部X光检测，
怎会如此？！
Thinking of the X-ray check of
the neck several days ago
for physical examination,
I was so struck that I couldn't help trembling.
How did this happen?

奔往医院，心里忐忑，这样的孩子能要吗？
With butterflies in the stomach,
I rushed to the hospital
to find out the destiny of the baby.

“咚，咚，咚！”
像是战鼓，像是小马奔腾，响彻整个B超室。
“什么声音”，我问。
“胎心”，医生说。“很有力！“
所有的犹豫与猜测，瞬间瓦解，
天哪，我的子宫是一个新生命的家了。
“Boom, boom,boom!”
The Ultrasound Room was filled with sounds
like war drums and also a galloping pony.
“What’s that sound?” I asked.
“Fetal heartbeat，full of strength.”
replied the doctor.
Then all the hesitations and guesses
were smashed instantly.
"Aha, my womb is home for a new life."

我立即给他发短信：
“快回来，你当爸爸了！”
Immediately I sent him a message,
saying: “ Come back ASAP,
you’re gonna be a Daddy!”

受精卵就像是天上的一朵云，
它携带着坚忍的意志以及生命奥秘，
选择栖息在我这里。
大自然赋予生命的这种无畏的创造力太不可思议了，
我隐约感觉到，
它的意外到来将会挖掘出我内在的无尽瑰宝。
除了给它爱的家，我想不到别的！
A fertilized egg was like a cloud in the sky,
It chose to stay in me with its
perseverance and life mystery.
Life’s fearless creativity given by nature
was so incredible
that I vaguely felt its accidental arrival
would inevitably
discover the hidden treasure within me.
And there’s nothing I could think of
but give it a home of love.
