一、限定词

America's Federal Trade Commission launched a round of talks about how to save newspapers.

• America's：名词所有格

The heightened alert followed an emergency meeting with flu experts in Geneva

• an：冠词
• emergency：名词
• flu：名词

More than three million doses were to be made available in early October 2009...

• More than three million：数次词组

By the third generation, one third of Hispanic women are married to non-Hispanics, and 41 percent of Asian-American women are married to non-Asians

• the third：第三
• one third：1/3
• 41 percent

二、形容词 副词

The angry boy shouted angrily.

1.形容词修饰名词

作定语：修饰名词，位于名词前后。 A pretty girl.
作表语：补充说明主语（主语通常为名词），位于系动词后。 The girl is pretty.

• High sympathy can substitute for low guilt.
• renewable energy is already a principle energy source.
• The reason for this is simple.
• spending of any sort became deeply unfashionable.

2.副词修饰动词，句子，形容词或其他副词

副词修饰动词：

• This temporarily lowers carbon-carrying capacity.这暂时降低了碳承载能力
• This man quickly nodded in agreement.

副词修饰句子:

• Collectively, they have a maintenance backlog of more than $12 billion.
• Unfortunately, people create inner barriers with a help of exaggerating fears.

副词修饰形容词或其他副词:

• The trend toward “less” was not entirely foreign.
• those with degrees from elite universities catch up fairly quickly.

3.形容词，副词的三种比较级别

1.原级比较
as + 比较的内容（adj./adv.原形）+ as + 比较对象；

否定形式：
not as ...as / not so... as

I am as tall as you.
I am as tall as in the past.
I am as tall as you were ten years ago .

• The supermarket is designed to lure customers into spending as much time as possible within its doors.
• But as recently as in 1968, jury selection procedures conflicted with these democratic ideals.

2.比较级
adj./adv.的比较级 ( + than 比较的对象）
表示“(和.···相比)更“，通常用于两者之间的比较

• normal-weight people are in fact at higher risk of some diseases
• This advice is more relevant now than ever before
• machines can perform much better at than human beings

3.最高级
adj./adv.的最高级 ( + 介词短语表示比较的范围)
表示“(.....范围内)最·····”，通常用于三者或以上的比较

• the biggest problem at the moment is not a lack of demand but a lack of good work to sell.
• it represents our greatest national security threat.
• The most immediate changes will be observed in skill level, strength and inches lost

最高级前有其他限定词就不用加the
