Haroun Taziff, the polish scientist, has spent his lifetime studying active volcanoes and deep caves in all parts of the world. In 1948, he observed a new volcano named by himself as Kituro in the Congo. He managed to set up his camp very close to the volcano
and take a number of brilliant photographs while it was erupting violently. But he could not stay there for very long because a river of liquid rock was coming towards him. He managed to escape just before the lava threatened to surround hime completely. After Kituro became quite, he returned to it and climed into the mouth of it to take
photographs and measure temperatures. Due to his valiant efforts, Taziff has been able to tell us more about active volcanoes than any man alive.
