Today‘ quote comes from Mexican film star and singer María Félix, who is one of the biggest movie stars in Mexico in the 1940s to 50s. She said, "I would rather speak highly of myself than speak ill of others."
We all know that words have power. From the time we were young children, we're told to careful with them. We learn that sometimes it's best to say nothing at all rather than hurt someone, whether it's to their face or behind their back. Not only that, research has found that the words we say have a direct impact on our brain chemistry. It turns out that speaking just one negative or angry word can flawed our brains with stress-producing chemicals. These chemicals can then make the logic and reasoning parts of our brain shut down. But positive uplifting speech can activate our frontal lobes and actually improve brain function. Some even believe that speaking positively about ourselves can help fight disease and attract prosperity.
So the next time you attempt to criticize somebody or indulging gossip, think about the lasting impact it may leave on your mind, body and health. Words are more important than you realize.
