Last night I watched 4 -episode variety show "Say and Listen", showing conversations between parents and children on their jobs. It touched me and evoked my resonance
Generation gap grows from different beliefs and values toward the world. "Be practicla and learn to survive"is frequently heard from four parents through the conversation. It expresses implicitly the following beliefs
"World is not friendly and it's hard to survive".
"One must be strong enough to survive"
"Parents are trainers who train kids to be strong"
"Things can be right or worng"
It is true in their age. Different personalities take various approach with it. Some comporises, some battle with it. They all tried to teach kids what they learn. However, they ignore the fact that world changes.
Do you ever have the idea that maybe what you teach is wrong, or at least,not 100% right in their time?
be alert about your conceit. The world is of many dimensions which ,may be far beyond your comprehension.
So, what's the role of parents? We are not to teach them, but to encourage them . Recognition and encouragement is their motivation . It is applicable in school and workforce, either.
I want to write more about encouragement. Encouragement is a wisdom, a practical wisdom that requires labours. Do you really believe your children? If it's not, then ask yourself : what are you fearing? Yes, fear. I find that fear is ignored often but it actually matters much.
Wu Bofan ever said that "conceit, terror,and desire is the three dominating emotions that controls our minds."
Conceit covers parents' eyes from the truth.
terror prevents you from trusting, trusting your children's ability of taking care of himself.
Desire is often biased, it's me to fulfill my desire, not others.
