在中期选举取得胜利后，美国众议院民主党推举，曾在2007年至2011年期间任众议院议长的南希·佩洛西（Nancy Pelosi）担任领袖。一些民主党成员发起运动，旨在拒绝佩洛西担任领袖，并向党领导层注入新鲜血液，最终失败。但是在一月众议院全体投票前，他们可能会重新发起运动。
