An ideal husband is a movie which revolves around blackmail and political corruption, and based on the themes of public and private honour. There is no doubt that the protagonist of the film Sir Robert Chiltern showed his integrity and considerate in this dispute over money and politics. This is fitting the title of the video. However, in my point of view, an ideal husband is an endorsement of not only Sir Robert Chiltern, but also Lord Goring.
The first act of the film presents us with a small part of Lord Goring’s life. He seems to be a playboy who is addicted to beauty and wine. But with the development of the movie, I gradually discovered that he was a man with unique thoughts. He has his own understanding of life and he rejects the idea of blindly following what other people do. Unlike his father, he does not care about other people's opinions. He knows how to live according to his own ideas and to focus on himself. As he said: “To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance.”

With Mrs. Cheveley’s appearance, the plot of the film has changed. The image of Sir Robert Chiltern’s perfect character vanishes in the moment. The harmonious relationship between Sir Robert Chiltern and his wife has also been destroyed. Then, they all came to Lord Goring for help.
On that night, he had to face the appointment with Miss Mabel Chiltern, the question from his father, and the request of his best friends. And he chose to stay to help his friends and sacrifice his date with his beloved Miss Mabel Chiltern. To my astonishment, he was able to come up with such a clever idea to ease the contradictions between Sir Robert Chiltern and his wife under such chaos. Lord Goring asked the housekeeper to bring Lady Gertrude Chiltern into the studio while allowing Sir Robert Chiltern to stay in a house next to the studio. When he talked to Sir Robert Chiltern, he quietly opened the door of the studio. He had hoped that Sir Robert Chiltern would be aware of his mistakes and confide his feeling. He hoped Lady Gertrude Chiltern can be moved by Sir Robert Chiltern. However, due to Mrs. Cheveley’s intrusion, his plan did not succeed. Not only that, Not only that, he was also misunderstood by Sir Robert Chiltern. In the face of misunderstandings and scolding of Sir Robert Chiltern, he was not angry, but still thinking about how to solve problems for his friends.

Later, Mrs. Cheveley stated her purpose of visiting. She hoped to get not only the wealth but also marriage and love by this letter. Although this behavior is very horrid, he did not blame her for it. He tried to convince Mrs. Cheveley. To my surprise, although he has been trying to escape from marriage and love, he has a deep understanding of love. He hoped Mrs. Cheveley can understand that love can only be given and cannot be exchanged for anything. Finally, she made concessions and decided to use the letter and Lord Goring’s freedom as a bet. He agreed without hesitation. At that moment, he chose to set aside the misunderstanding. He chose to forget the imperfect past. He chose to believe in his best friend.

Afterwards the movie reached its climax. In the House of Commons, Sir Robert Chiltern gave a wonderful speech. For one thing, he strengthened his position. For another, he attacked those who tried to profit by unfair means like Mrs. Cheveley. Due to the agreement, Mrs. Cheveley handed over the letter and the story gradually came to an end. And Lord Goring generously forgave Sir Robert Chiltern for his misunderstanding and returned the letter to him. Also, I'm glad to see that Lord Goring and Miss Mabel can be together after experiencing twists and turns.
This film made me realize that no one is perfect. And if you try to ignore your weakness and choose to hide your weakness by cheating, it will be counterproductive. Like Sir Robert Chiltern, he had a wife who loves him deeply. His wife always chose to believe him, but he chose to deceive his wife because of a momentary recreance, and finally made a mess of his life. No man is perfect, even the Lord Goring. He was born in a noble family. As Sir Robert Chiltern said, Lord Goring has not experienced poverty, so he does not know what ambition is. That is why he has no goal in life. The whole movie, with Wilde's irony, exposed the hypocritical social atmosphere and family life of the upper class in Britain. The politicians who should have been honest can actually betray their morality and have no remorse at all as long as they have the right rewards. They were still thinking of taking short cuts as the tenet of their lives in the depths of their minds. The frankness and trust that should exist between husband and wife are actually based on lies. We should, like Sir Robert Chiltern, face up to our own past, strengthen our convictions, bravely move toward the future, and positively attack those who are trying to abuse their power.
